Getting it right - Delivering Excellence

Welcome our online April newsletter.

This month we have been very busy like bees and the Get Into Uni team are trying update our technology to serve our clients better.

We have also all been on a diet so no more cakes in the office!

Thanks go out to Deborah who has helped create our newsletter this month. This month we are going to provide some advice around writing to professors. A good personal statement and great academics will get you into university but doing the groundwork will provide you with more opportunity of success.

We played a few practical jokes on April fools day. We have all recovered and are ready to get back to work!

Enjoy your read

Spotlight – Approaching the university

The first step in approaching a university that you are interested in - is to visit their website. The website will provide a wealth of information on the faculty. Most websites contain contact information for staff. At this point you need to find out as much as you can about the university faculty including any research that has been carried out.

If you come across research commissioned or written by a professor on the program it may be worthwhile reading the research and add any comments that would make you seem a helpful and thoughtful student. The next task is to construct a letter or e-mail to the professor. Below is an example e-mail that you can send:

Example of a letter to a professor

Dear Dr xxxx

I am intrigued by your research on consumer behaviour, my current interest lies within the marketing arena and how marketing can influence consumers across the world.

I am hoping to return to my studies next year and I am currently eager to pursue a graduate marketing degree at xxx university.

I would be grateful if you would contact me to discuss your research.

Kind Regards

xxxxxxx

Top Tip

Always remember that you are choosing the university course because it is for you, not because you enjoy speaking to the professor. The professor may not always be around forever so make sure you pick the university based on your needs.
